Slough Jets season review 2010/11
The Slough Jets ended 2009/10 on a high with the Play-off win at Coventry and so had high hopes for the 2010/11 season. Peter Russell returned as Coach and set about building his team.
When the time came to finally get on the ice and start the season the Jets experienced a tough start to their campaign, encountering some tough losses however these ultimately helped the team learn and develop which would prove crucial later in the season.
The season was really a season of two halves as Head Coach, Peter Russell stated, “At Christmas time, we regrouped and came out for the second half of the season a stronger and more determined team.”
January saw the Slough Jets secure one of the EPIHL’s biggest ever signings with Adam Calder joining and soon after John Connolly joined up. The team had achieved a real unity and were now even better gelled. Even through tough scheduling and fixture congestion the Slough Jets grabbed the first trophy of the season when they overcame Basingstoke Bison in the home and away Premier Cup Final.
Russell commented, “There have been ups and downs like in every season, but picking up the EPL Cup was a fantastic feeling. It’s a tough cup to win as it takes lots of extra effort on and off the ice. As well, commitment is required from everyone involved. But, there is nothing better than winning at home in front of your own fans. “
The team secured a top three finish in the league even through the doubt of the beginning of the season. Being able to pull through was an amazing feat for the team.
Eventually the fixture congestion and crucial injuries brought a premature close to the Jets season as they lost out in the Play-off Quarter Final stage but with the EPL team winning the Premier Cup and the first year ENL team winning ENL 2 South and gaining promotion to ENL 1 it has been a successful season for the Slough Jets organisation and a great building block for the 25th anniversary season in 2011/12.
The team would like to thank all of our dedicated fans and supporters for such a great year. As well, the team gives a massive thanks to Zoran and Ghislaine Kozic for their dedication to the team throughout the years. Without their support, the team wouldn’t be where they are today.
